By I. Konen It did the job, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the ease of lining up and making a "clean" cut. It's seems like kind of a brute force technique, but the instructions do say you should be able to remove a nut without damaging the threads on the bolt, and I found that claim tenuous. It seems like the cutting bit is too loose in the shaft: it spins a little, and shifts up, so it was hard to make a clean cut through nuts that are flush on a flat surface. I had 6 rusty nuts/bolts I had to remove, and I only got one off with two first try cuts. The other 5 took a few tries relining up, and I ended up mangling the bolts. I didn't care because they were also rusty (and replaceable) and would have used a hack saw if I could fit it in. I'd say it took me about 45 minutes to get all six off, which was vastly better than any other option I could think of. So in my case they well were worth the price even if I never use them again, but I suspect there are higher quality and more expensive options out there if you want to avoid damaging the bolt (as they claim to be able to do)
I should add I've never used a nut splitter before, so I may also just be expecting too much.

nut splitterJul 03, 2011

Good tool to have when needed. Removed suspension parts that had rusted nuts and bolts from a clasic auto. Worked well removing the nuts without damaging the bolts. Very handy product.
Piece of junk!May 03, 2013

I have a rusted and frozen bolt and bought this to take the nut off. After the first two turns the set screw that is supposed to hold the splitter in place stripped rendering the tool useless. Don't waste your money.
Built to a price pointJan 01, 2012
By B. Spiegel Ive already had some trouble with the smaller of the 2. The splitter heads rotate very easily, even though there appears to be a key way cut into them so that doesn't happen. Also galling a bit, I would recommend a good dollop of anti-seize on these before putting them to work.
Tekton nut splittersNov 20, 2011
By Johnnyboy I wasn't pleased to discover after ordering that the cutter was Chrome Vanadium and not Chrome Molydenum as in the product description. (Chrome Molybdenum is superior for this type of tool). One of the nut splitters required reassembly as the original assembly was incorrect. However, it functions satisfactorily and is a useful addition to deal with seized nuts so commonly encountered in auto work.
