5Needs better instructions for amatuersMar 18, 2012

TEKTON 6555 Rivet Gun with 40-pc. Rivets
Yes, there are instructions on the back of the package which explain how to use it. But it does not show one critical part of the operation: After the rivet-shaft has snapped off how to get the shaft out of the Rivet gun?

After I successfully riveted my first joint I tried to insert the second one and found that the shaft of the first one was still inside. Thinking I need to pull it out, I tried with pliers and had no luck. Then thinking it was jammed, I dis-assembled the Rivet gun head and removed the snapped-off shaft. The re-assembly was a nightmare - it is probably done with a jig in the factory! I made my second rivet and what do you know the snapped-off shaft again would not come out (of the front). Again I dis-assembled it and re-assembled it - nightmare number 2! This time I lubricated the gripper pieces inside the rivet gun thinking that was the culprit. After the third rivet, I looked in to see if the shaft was again stuck, but when I tilted the gun back to look inside the tiny hole, the snapped-off shaft fell without any trouble FROM THE OTHER SIDE!

I feel like a fool now! All I needed to do was tilt it back to let the shaft fall out! But how was I to know?! This is the first time I have ever used a rivet gun!

It is a good tool and it is so inexpensive. So people who are most likely to buy this are are amateurs like me. Pros would need sturdier more expensive tools. Given that, I think Michigan should update the user instructions in the back. My suggestion to Michigan tools is: Include another step in the instructions which shows how the Rivet gun should be tilted back in order for the snapped-off rivet shaft to fall out on its own from the other side. This may have been the problem with many of the people here who returned it.

4dollar for dollar valueOct 09, 2011

This product did what I needed it to do for the price, you can't beat it, seems sturdy enough for even bigger jobs than I used it for. Installing a top on a miata, and comes with for different size rivet outlets along with some basic harware.

4Works Great and is cheap.Feb 06, 2012
By Joshua E. Patrick
It worked great to install some rivets on my Jeep Wrangler YJ. I installed clamps to attach the hardtop instead of using those annoying screws. Plus this way the top gets a tighter fit and less road noise. If you need a quick tool to do a few rivets every now and then, this is your tool.

3Broke at first attemp of using itJan 13, 2012
By Tim
I don't understand what happened, but something inside the head broke, which resulted in the rivet getting stuck in there. This happened during my first attempt at using it.

I am returning it for more expensive rivet gun. Either I applied too much force or rivet gun is defective.

Appears to be high quality rivet gun and comes with enough rivets to play around.

2Repackaged!Dec 22, 2011
By Gdb1185
Item arrived poorly repackaged with the pieces loose in the box! The plastic package was literally stapled closed! If you are going to try to pull one over on your customers by sending a used product instead of a new one, at least TRY and make it look new. This ruined an otherwise great holiday gift!
